There’s a new hungover brunch spot in town and good news for me- it’s a stone throw away from my house. Located next to The Stoneham pub, The Old Port is Portland roads latest breakfast offering. Me and The Stoneham go way back, it was my first pub job. The Old Port takes place in an old function room but it’s completely decked out and looks totally different. They offer breakfast from 8am and it transforms into a cosy cocktail bar at 6pm.
It’s always nice to see local business’s supporting others. The Port House serve Small Batch coffee and offer dairy-free milk as well. The drinks list was extensive including shakes, breakfast cocktails and plenty of tea (including CBD which is interesting). If you read my blog, you’ll know my go to order is an oat milk flat white but as I was pretty hungover this day I choose a refreshing orange juice instead.
The food and menu here are run by Tisbury’s kitchen, an infamous company around Brighton known for a slap up roast. The menu was smaller but perfect- a choice for everyone. It was a no brainer for me and I went for the full veggie option. I usually HATE the combination of beans and avocado but the beans were separate, as was the butter and hollandaise sauce. One thing that stood out to me was the tomato- I’m not sure what they did but it was SO GOOD. The mushroom, beans and toast made perfect companions to the salty halloumi. Overall, this was a great meal with loads of components and each one hit the spot. I would have prefered a more rustic/seeded sourdough toast, however.
Megan had the meat full English and this is what she said: ‘Loved the interiors so much at the old port, felt really cosy and the perfect spot for a nice late Sunday brunch. I went for the full English style breakfast and a fresh orange juice as I was quite hungover and omg did it hit the spot. The sausage was so tasty, the bacon was perfectly crisp and the salted butter on the toast was sooo good. I know they’re going to introduce pancakes to their menu so I defo wanna go back soon and try them’
Megan and I had a lovely time. The food was great, the vibe was chilled and the staff were lovely. What more could you want? I will definitely be returning and making my way through the menu. I feel like this place is going to be big, especially for such a residential area. Get yourself to Hove this bank holiday to feed the hangover with some epic brunch. Thank you for having us!*
