So what direction is this blog going in? Skincare? Food? Musicals? Well, I love all 3 so we’ll just deal with a mixture. Today I’m back with a theatre review. Last night I saw the Wedding Singer at the Theatre Royal. With these things I like to go in as blind as possible- not watching any trailers etc.
I knew that the wedding singer is a film and I knew that it was set in the 80’s- that’s it! So, considering I didn’t know what to expect, here’s what I thought…

So if I’m honest it’s a pretty basic story line, but that doesn’t matter. It follows a boy and a girl who fall in love and have things stopping them in their tracks, whether that’s a wannabe gangster fiancé or a sexy runaway bride. The plot thickens slightly with romantic moments, dramatic scenes and a lot of funny situations as well. It’s not the most twisty-turny storyline but it’s simple enough so you can concentrate on the amazing singing and dancing!

I love a musical with a small cast as you get to know them all individually. Everyone was insanely talented whether it was a great character, an impressive high kick or an amazing belt. The person who stood out the most to me was Stephanie Clift who played best friend Holly. She is the definition of a triple threat. Her character was hilarious and executed perfectly and then she completely wow’d me with her voice. Sometimes, when you’re playing a comedy character the audience only expect that from you but she blew me away with her voice and dance skills.
Ray Quinn also pleasantly surprised me. I hate the X factor so I didn’t even know if he could sing! He really embodied his character and bought it to life and it was really nice to watch.

I’m doing this show for my second year of uni and I cannot wait to get stuck into some of these songs. Jon Robyns, who plays the protagonist Robbie Hart, had a great voice which showcased the songs perfectly. The song ‘Saturday Night In The City’ was amazing. The lighting, sound, and voices were all so epic. This song was the song that made me really notice Stephanie as she belted a top E, which I think is very impressive.

I’d say, if you have a free evening- you must go and see this show. It’s a fun show for everyone and you’ll want to go home and learn all the songs. I was really impressed by everyone in the cast. There were even a few technical difficulties but the cast dealt with it perfectly. Such a fun, feel good show with a few celebs thrown in as well! Go and see it, you won’t regret it.
The Wedding Singer is on until Saturday the 2nd and you can buy tickets here.
I was kindly invited to go and see this show by ATG Tickets and The Theatre Royal Brighton. All opinions are my own. This is not a sponsored post.
