I’m going to be honest. I love cheese. I eat meat, dairy and gluten but I’m aware of the health risks that come along with it. I try to substitute dairy as often as I can by using oat milk and vegan butter as I know that too much is not good for you! When it comes to pastries and cakes, however, I can never seem to find an alternative (that tastes good, anyway). This was the case until Rosina Makes, a company based in Brighton contacted me and asked if I wanted to try some goodies! Of course, I said yes….
All of the bakes are gluten free, vegan and majoritively soy free. I feel like soy is something that is ignored but it’s actually proven to be quite bad for you in terms of hormones. There’s a lot of research linking it to fertility issues and also cancer. NOT GOOD.
As someone who doesn’t follow a vegan or gluten free diet, I am trying these cakes comparing them to sugar and milk filled produce. That being considered, I’m so impressed with how these taste! You would never know they don’t contain these naughty ingredients and she has managed to get the texture so so right. Starting with the muffins. I can imagine chocolate muffins without milk would be very powdery and fake but these are just as delicious as any others.
She also does cookie sandwiches!! My fave. The filling of these is unreal, so creamy and almost cheesy! One of my favourite treats is cream cheese icing and this vegan alternative is just as delicious. The cookies, although gluten free, have the perfect texture between crumbly and soft.
If you’re looking to cut out dairy or gluten, as many people are, then I think you should have a try! It can’t be that joyful going for the free from section in ASDA surely? Treat yourself to a pretty wrapped box full of homemade goodies. Not only are you looking after your body and the environment you are also supporting a local business. I’m not sure if I’m ready to 100% cut out animal products but trying these lovely treats have definitely proved to me it’s easier than I think. You can still treat yourself when you’re cutting back!
You can follow Rosina Makes on Instagram here and keep an eye on the website here for updates! She has doughnuts, cupcakes, fudge (SO GOOD!!) and birthday cakes too. Thanks, Rosina Makes for sending me these goodies, me and my stomach are very happy.
