On Saturday I headed to the newly opened Franco Manca with my gals Beckie, Georgia, Ali, Ashley and Georgia’s Boyfriend. I’d seen the branch on Regent Street and had always wanted to try it! I’m happy we finally got the chance, here are my thoughts on the sourdough pizza experts…
DAYUM. This place is pretty. I wasn’t expecting how lovely it would be inside because ‘it’s just a pizza place right’ ? Wrong. The decor is so interesting and the things they use for decoration is really interesting. From floor to ceiling, I love the attention to detail. One thing that stood out to me? The tiles! Ah, just look how pretty they are. I really want to try a DIY tile table or wall in my house now….
I went for a glass of trebiano, as it’s a wine I’m familiar with and enjoy. It was lovely but one thing- my pet peeve is wine not served in a wine glass. What’s the deal with that? I would have enjoyed a wine glass next time.
The other girls went for an aperol spritz which they really enjoyed! I also had a lemonade which was amazing, very homemade. It tasted almost like a mulled apple juice/ cloudy lemonade hybrid!
For starters we went for a selection of the little platters they call ‘bites’. We choose the buffalo mozzarella with cured ham and some garlic bread! I LOVE garlic bread and at home, the cheaper and stronger the better (ya know the ones, 70p per baguette and burns your mouth off) but in a restaurant- this is the stuff you need. It was so strong and well flavoured.
The mozzarella was so fresh and moist and so so lovely. The ham, rocket, tomatoes and olives complimented it perfectly.
So here’s where it gets good. Franco Manca are known for their sourdough pizza (for a good reason may I add). They’re menu wasn’t massive but they had a great variation and you can always add things if you want. I went for their meat special which featured a white base instead of a tomato one. It has mozzarella, cured ham, wild mushrooms, ricotta and stilton- a dream combo!
My pizza was really really good. The white base (creamy and cheesy) made it a little more sickly but I don’t mind that! The base was very thin, which I like- it gives it that authentic feel.
Yes, believe it or not we went for dessert as well! I have to review everything for you right?! 😉 I went for the lemon and rosemary cake and dayummm it was good. It was very stodgy and filling but oh so worth it. I’m really sorry if you hate this word, but it was MOIST af. Highly recommend.
I will definitely be back! I really enjoyed my night, my food, my company and the lovely staff! I want to try the branch in the Laines as well, as the marina is a bit of an effort sometimes haha! If you’re looking for a meal before a girls night out or a nice date night- look no further.
Thank you for reading!
