As you may know if you’ve read my blog for a while, I suffer with Psoriasis. It’s is an extreme dry skin condition which causes the skin on my face, scalp and body to be flaky, itchy and painful. I’ve battled for 12 years to find products that soothe my skin and I feel I know the products that work pretty well now! Everyones skin is different but here are the things that work for me…
This is an ingredient that my skin loves as its rich, greasy, emollient and really soothes my sensitive and dry skin. There are loads of brands out there but as long as it’s 100% shea butter with no other chemicals or fragrances then it should be fine.
I LOVE perfume and scent but I need to be careful when it comes to body care. I will never use a body lotion or cream that’s full of perfume (if you can- the body shop, Victorias Secret and Bath and Body Works ones are amazing!!) . I can get away with scented shower gel if it’s a natural scent (Like Lush) but not every day, as it does irritate. Instead, I use the Barefoot SOS Soothing Body Wash* (£16), it’s very gentle and cleanses without irritation.
Some people don’t get on with coconut oil but I love it, especially on my legs and arms. It’s so nourishing and great for this time of year. It’s so easy to slap on and you can use for a hair mask too!
For my face, I’ve introduced a richer cream. I was sent the Barefoot SOS face cream*(£5.95) and it’s so lovely. The texture is great and it smells lovely. I really recommend this if you’re looking for a rich face cream for dry skin, without loads of nasty chemicals.
A key factor to making dry skin lovely and smooth again is to exfoliate. I use the Caudalie Divine Scrub* (£21.50)on my body as it provides a good exfoliation without being too harsh. For a DIY version, I like mixing together dead sea salts with olive oil!
What do you use on your dry winter skin? Let me know in the comments below…
